GRANITE is one of the most common and preferred countertop materials because it’s solid, durable and stain resistant. It can withstand heat associated with cooking or serving food. It’s difficult to break, crack or scratch with normal wear and tear. Pits exist in all granites and should be expected when dealing with a natural, polished stone containing several types of minerals with different hardness.
The American Geological Institute defines granite as an intrusive igneous rock composed of 25% to 35% quartz and over 50% potassium- and sodium-rich feldspars, with a common accessory mineral of less than 20%, usually muscovite, biotite, or hornblende.
Granite is available in a variety of colors, such as tan, gray, yellow-gold, brown, off-white, taupe, peach and blue-gray and so can be the Granite Countertops. However, because it’s a natural stone, there are limited color options when compared to color-enhanced quartz varieties. Opt for granite countertops if you want low-maintenance countertops that don’t fade or discolor over time and aren’t sensitive to cleaning chemicals. Be prepared to add occasional sealants to ensure its luster and longevity.
Bacteria requires several things in order to thrive and grow: oxygen, water, sunlight, nutrients, and a substrate to form on. The minerals in granite are toxic to bacteria. As a result, there is no habitable environment for the bacteria to live and grow on a granite surface.
